6 Ways to Style a Colored Blazer for Work and Play

A blazer is an amazing piece to keep in your closet because it can be worn in so many ways. Gone are the days of boring professionals in boring suits. A blazer can be worn by everyone and it does not have to be a basic color to be a versatile piece in your wardrobe.

Easy to Dress to Impress…

This dress is a reversible piece from White House Black Market. It is solid black on the reverse side, and it is a wrinkle free fabric (perfect for travel!).

Throwing a blazer on over a dress is an incredibly easy way to instantly look put together. This outfit is quick and easy and is appropriate for a number of commitments. A blazer can also tone down a dress with a busy print.

A Day at the Office…

This blazer pairs perfectly with a black pencil skirt and some stylish accessories for a professional office look. I work in an office with a professional dress code and I would not think twice about wearing this. I purchased this necklace on Amazon last fall and it was a STEAL at only $16.99. I love it and I have worn it several times. The pumps are Chinese Laundry and I purchased them on sale at Von Maur, but it looks like they are on Amazon too.

Daytime to Nighttime…

For this look I swapped the pencil skirt for some black skinny pants and traded my pumps for some stiletto booties. It is the perfect look for happy hour or a dinner date. These black jeggings are my FAVORITE black skinny pants (and I probably own 10 pairs of black skinnies). They are Democracy “Ab”solution and they are so comfortable, they do not stretch out, and they come in petite. I have worn these on numerous trips and I even bought an extra pair. If you are lucky, you might be able to find them at Nordstrom Rack for only $40.

Make a Statement with Color…

For this outfit, I paired the blush blazer with a vibrant green pencil skirt. This look is a fun twist on the business dress code and would work well in most offices during the spring and summer. Do not be afraid to pair different colors together as long as you have a piece that brings them together, like this necklace which has both the green from the skirt and the blush from the blazer.

Casual Friday…

One of my favorite trends from the past few years is colored denim and chinos. They add personality to your outfit and are a great alternative to jeans and khakis. For this outfit, I paired the blazer with a floral print shirt and sage colored skinny pants. This outfit is comfortable and casual, but the blazer pulls it together for meetings or a casual day at the office.

Jazz Up Your Jeans…

In addition to being perfect for numerous event and office looks, a blazer can also elevate your weekend “jeans and t-shirt” outfit. I paired the blazer with a simple cotton t-shirt, and it is perfect for errands or brunch.

Admittedly, I thought twice about whether a colored blazer was a good investment. We tend to buy blazers and suits in classic colors, like black, navy, and grey. However, I wear this blazer much more than my suiting pieces because it is so versatile. It gives new life to old tops in your closet, and you can wear it with dresses, skirts, jeans, and other pants.

There are many different options, especially with so many online sales happening right know. Here are some I have my eyes on:

Shrunken Linen Blazer

Inverted Collar Blazer

Linen Cotton Blazer

Hutton Blazer in Knit

Withered Rose Blazer

Shawl Collar Blazer
