Fall Fast Fashion with Friends

Ah, we made it. One week deeper into fall! I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to believe it’s even fall with all the warm temperatures and humidity that has been sticking around. I love summer, but it’s mid-October and I’m ready for fall fashion. There are so many great pieces to wear during fall from cozy sweaters to trendy boots. Many of these pieces are considered “fast fashion” since most people can’t or don’t want to invest in every piece in their fall wardrobe.

Throughout the year, my sister and I typically do a sister styling segment when a new season starts. This gives you the opportunity to see certain trends or pieces on someone who is a different size, age, shape etc. While my sister is still on the shorter side like me, she is mid-size with a completely different body shape. For fall, I decided to do the same thing with fall fast fashion + a friend! Ashley is average size (she likes to call herself a “schmedium”), but she is very tall! Ashley is 5’9” with a short torso and long (long) legs. This is vastly different from my 5’2” frame with a long torso and very short legs.

Check below to see how these trendy fast fashion pieces fit each of our body types. Fast fashion pieces tend to go in and out of stock regularly during each season, so check back if your size is out of stock. Find your fall fit!

Outfit 1

The pieces in this outfit are from Walmart. I am wearing a size XS in the bodysuit, size 0 in the jeans, and a size XS in the cardigan. Ashley is wearing a size medium in the bodysuit, size 4 in the jeans, and a size small in the cardigan. The jeans are a boyfriend jean, so I sized down one for each of us since they have a looser fit. I’m in between a 0 and 2, so the size down fit perfectly. Ashley’s size down also fit, but they were a bit tighter around the waist than mine since they were a full size down. The cardigan also runs big, so size down at least one size if possible.

This outfit is quintessential cozy fall with the oversized sweater in a perfect fall color. The cardigan is a little too oversized on my petite frame, reaching down past mid-thigh. However, I still loved how it looked and felt. Oversized sweaters look great paired with a top or bodysuit that is close to the body. Going forward I’ll likely wear it with a darker, skinny jean to balance the oversized fit of the sweater.

I kept both the sweater and the jeans. The bodysuit was super soft and a unique color, but I didn’t love the high cut bottom. The jeans are SO amazing and I hope they come back in stock in all sizes. They were a little long for me to wear with boots, but they look perfect with other heels and mules. I also picked up the cutest quilted bucket bag. It’s the perfect crossbody for fall activities!

Ashley was very nervous to try on the bodysuit, but the material was so soft and stretchy that she forgot it was a bodysuit once she had it on. She thought it was comfortable and a great price ($12). She liked the denim because they were comfortable and stretchy. The boyfriend fit was something new since she typically wears skinny jeans. They were slightly short on her, but they still looked great with boots. The sweater was her favorite piece, probably from the whole try-on! She loved that it was warm, comfortable, and a good fit. The sleeves were even LONG enough for her long arms.

Outfit 2

For this outfit, we wore the same boyfriend jeans as above and added a lightweight waffle knit top. I am wearing a size small and Ashley is wearing a medium. I chose to keep the outfit casual with some comfy and affordable sneakers, while Ashley added booties for a fall feel. Here is a similar henley option and an option with extended sizing.

We both kept this top. I love how it can be worn very casually (think athleisure) or dressed up with boots. I actually wore it with this skirt and tennis shoes to go hiking. This top has a casual, slightly oversized fit. It was a great length on both of us and the sleeves weren’t too long on me (banded at the wrist) or too short on Ashley. She loved how it provided a little warmth, but it wasn’t hot. She ripped the tags off as soon as she tried it on! It works well on both heights, torso lengths, and body shapes.

Outfit 3

The jeans are from Walmart, while Ashley’s top and the jackets are from Amazon. I am wearing a size 5 in the jeans and a small in the jacket. Ashley is wearing a size medium in the top, 9 in the jeans, and a medium in the jacket. I ordered the same jacket in two different sizes (my print), but Ashley’s came in a different style.

This elevated casual look was the most out of the box for Ashley. The mom jeans were out of the box for both of us! Because of the style of pants, they ran small, so size up 1-2 sizes.

I loved the look of the jeans, with the slight distressing and the black wash. However, they did not fit me well. They were too long overall and they were very baggy in the legs. These jeans are a better fit for someone taller who carries some weight in their bottom and thighs. I also prefer a mid-rise, but high-rise mom jeans are very on trend right now. I love the pattern on the jacket and it can be dressed up or down. Trendy blazers and graphic tees are a great option for daytime to nighttime.

Ashley thought the mom jeans were a good value and comfortable even though the high rise was very different. The jeans were slightly short on Ashley, but the cropped fit paired well with slips ons and high ankle boots. The size 9 fit well her well throughout the legs. The t-shirt was cute and fit well, but it came with a strong scent. The jacket was good quality and comfortable, but she didn’t feel like it was something she would wear regularly.

Option 4…some variations

These looks are a combination of some pieces from the other outfits, plus some new items. I’m wearing a small in the compass top and a size 6 in the combat boots. My boyfriend denim is the same from above. Ashley is wearing a size 10 in the boots and a small in the flannel.

These boots from Walmart are a SUPER affordable way to try the combat boot trend. They look great with jeans, but they’d also look cute with fall skirts and dresses. They come in a few different colors and in sizes 6-11. However, they do not come in half sizes. I’m wearing a size 6 and they fit well even though I have wide feet. Ashley normally wears a 9.5, but the 10 fit well. She said that they were comfortable and her feet were not sliding around even though she has narrow feet. The zipper made them easy to get on and off and she felt like a “young, hip kid”!

Outfit 5

I am wearing a size XS in my dress and a small in the flannel. Ashley is wearing a size medium in her dress and a small in the flannel.

I LOVE these looks! Interestingly, I chose a shorter dress for Ashley and a midi length for me even though she’s much taller than me. I’m confident that a midi would look great on her and a shorter dress would be fine on me, but the styles were also different. The midi length dress has a tighter bodycon style and the shorter dress has a looser, swing style. Ashley is not comfortable with form fitting dresses, so the swing dress was a better option for her. I also prefer the navy for her versus the rusty brick color of my dress.

The shorter swing dress was a great length on her tall frame. It was very comfortable, stretchy, and flowy. She thought the plaid shirt was a good price and very comfortable. She loved the colors and weight of the top. Midi length dresses are often maxis on me because of my short stature, but this one fit great and hit just below my knees. I love that either dress works on short OR tall frames. We kept the flannels tied at the waist, which is very on trend for fall. They can also be layered over the dresses for a different style.
