Get on Board, A Series of Delicious Food Boards: S’mores

Since creating this blog, our family has eaten several delicious food boards. Many of our favorite combinations from those boards have been recreated for other meals. I crave the sauces from this fry board on a weekly basis and our weekend brunches regularly include bagel creations. After a few weeks off due to our move, we are back on board with s’mores.

It has been hot and humid here most days, but the frequent rain has provided some cooler evenings. This s’mores board made me so excited for fall! In addition to ingredients for traditional s’mores, our board contained unique filling options like peanut butter cups and brownies. Our board also featured gluten free and vegan options. Its versatility makes it the perfect dessert to prepare for your next cookout or bonfire.

The Vehicles.

In addition to regular graham crackers, we had two types of gluten free graham crackers. Pamela’s gluten free cinnamon grahams are thicker and their texture is more similar to a biscuit or cookie. We also had Schar gluten free honey grahams. These are most similar to traditional graham crackers. Side note-Schar makes delicious gluten free products, especially their pizza crusts! For two unique options, we used fudge stripe cookies and sea salt caramel cookie crisps from Aldi.

The Marshmallows.

Our s’mores board had traditional marshmallows, as well as Dandies marshmallows. Dandies marshmallows are vegan and gluten free. Flavored marshmallows would be a great addition!

The Spreads.

As if chocolate bars are not enough…we also had some spreads for our s’mores board. We used peanut butter (oh my gosh, so good), cookie butter, Nutella, and the cookie and cocoa swirl. The cookie butter and cookie and cocoa swirl are from Trader Joe’s.

The Extras.

Other (delicious) ingredients we had on our board were Reese’s peanut butter cups, Hershey’s chocolate bars, white chocolate chips, and brownies (ours were gluten free). We also had several fruits, like strawberries, cherries, blueberries, and pineapple.

My husband’s favorite combination was fudge stripe cookies, a peanut butter cup, and a regular marshmallow. I purchased the mini peanut butter cups and they were the perfect size since they smash flat when they are schmelty (<-technical term). I LOVED the gluten free sea salt cookie crisps, brownie, peanut butter, and a Dandie’s marshmallow. There were so many deep flavors and it was so rich and delicious! One of my nephews made traditional s’mores, while the other paired the sea salt cookie crisps with white chocolate chips and a marshmallow. My sister suggested the brownies and she was SO RIGHT!

Even if you are a s’mores “purist”, you have to give some of these combinations a try. It was loads of fun to make our own creations and then make suggestions to each other. I love that these boards make eating an interactive and fun family experience.

What combination would you like to try?

PS: We use roasting sticks or a sandwich maker to make our s’mores! Our sandwich maker was purchased at Walmart, but it is similar to this one.
