Get on Board, A Series of Delicious Food Boards: Burgers

Do you love grilling burgers in the summer? Due to the restrictions and recommendations stemming from the pandemic, we are spending more time cooking and eating outside than ever before. Cookouts are a great solution so you can spend time with loved ones from different households. For the first week in the “Get on Board” series, we assembled a bagel board for a tasty breakfast or brunch. This week, we are back on board with burgers. There are infinite options for your slider board, but hopefully this will provide some inspiration. It was great to test different sauces and topping combinations and make recommendations to each other.

The Burgers.

For our burger board, we made sliders so we could try lots of combinations before we got too full! We used impossible meat (vegan) to form our patties, but you could certainly use your favorite ground meat or veggie patty.

The Buns.

We used wheat buns and gluten free buns. I was not able to find gluten free slider buns, so I used regular gluten free buns and cut them into slider size using a biscuit cutter. You can use this trick to turn any of your favorite regular size buns into a slider version (mmm maybe an onion bun!).

Sauces.

In addition to the regular culprits like ketchup and mustard, we used barbecue sauce, horseradish, and teriyaki sauce on our sliders.

The Toppings.

Our burger board had the following toppings: red onion, pineapple, mushroom, pickles, lettuce, tomato, avocado, gouda, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, and habanero cheese.

The toppings may not have been unique, but the combinations were delicious and crowd-pleasing. My nephew’s favorite was gouda, teriyaki sauce, and pineapple. The sweet and savory flavors were the perfect combination. I enjoyed his selection, but I also loved the addition of avocado to my burgers.

This is such an easy way to make a simple meal fun and engaging. A burger board is a great idea for an elevated weeknight meal or a fun family gathering.
