Liven Up Your Deck with an Affordable Rail Planter
While perusing some online sales, I discovered this rail planter for less than $40 at Home Depot. It is the perfect time for a project like this since we are spending so much time at home. When the weather is nice, we sit on the deck as much as possible so we are not cooped up in the house all day. I love the idea of planting a few herbs and flowers and having them adorn the deck rail.Â
This type of project is a great way to relieve stress, and you can do it as a family or on your own for some “me” time. My nephew loves to check on the plants every morning to see how everything is growing. We used starter plants for the flowers and lemon thyme, but the other herbs in the planter we grew from seeds in strawberry containers (the perfect mini greenhouses) and transplanted to the planter once they sprouted.
The planters are sturdy and made to look like ceramic pots, but they are plastic, so they are lightweight and kid friendly. This is a great feature for us because it is still freezing at night and we need to bring them inside. My husband and I are impressed at how snugly they fit on the deck rail. We planted flowers in the top planter and six different herbs in the individual pots of the remaining planters. It would be so beautiful to have the rails filled with planters of beautiful herbs and flowers!
Have you planted anything lately? What would look pretty in these planters on your deck?
