The Burden of Truth: Does the Billie Razor Live Up to its Hype?

What do you know about the Billie razor? Maybe you have seen the articles and have even tried it, or maybe you have never heard of it. I saw articles and blurbs about the Billie razor popping up online month after month, but I did not know much about it until recently.

What is the Billie brand?

Billie is a brand of clean beauty basics, but their original product is the Billie razor. The company advertises that their products have no sulfates, parabens, formaldehydes, GMOs, drying alcohols, synthetic dyes, fragrances, cheap foaming agents, unstable silicones or BHT. The products are all also vegan, cruelty free, and gluten free.

Billie offers dry shampoo, wonder wipes (facial cleansing wipes with hyaluronic acid + vitamin C!), lip balm, body lotion, body wash, the razor starter kit, shave cream, and a razor travel case.

What about the razor?

The Billie razor features a five-blade razor encased in charcoal shave soap. The razor blades are nickel free with rounded edges for shaving in tight areas.

How does the service work?

The Billie razor is a razor subscription service. You purchase a razor starter kit for $9 and it comes with the razor handle, a magnetic holder for your shower, and two razor blades. The razor comes in several different {and FUN} colors. The shipping from Billie is always free. I chose the blush color, but it is also available in dreampop (multicolor), coral, cool blue, and periwinkle right now.

After your initial order, you automatically receive a shipment of four replacement blades for $9 at the frequency you choose. The website asks a few questions about how often you shave in order to determine how often you need refills. However, once you order, you can modify the frequency and change the shipment dates as necessary. You can receive your refills every 1, 2, or 3 months. You can change or cancel your subscription in your account on the Billie website.

Do you need additional products?

You certainly do not need to purchase anything else in order to use the razor. In fact, some folks do not use shaving cream at all because of the charcoal strips, and some users prefer to use a different brand of shave cream, lotion, or gel.

I wanted to get the full experience and I LOVE that the products are clean, so I picked up the shave cream too. It is a non-aerosol cream and it costs $8 a bottle (6.5 fluid ounces). I also grabbed the razor travel case for $5. It comes in matching colors to the razor handle, so I chose the blush. It snaps easily onto the head of the razor and has drain holes on the back to allow the charcoal strips to dry and not get gummy. Even with the razor starter kit, the shave cream, and the travel case, my initial investment was only $23.54 to my front door.

Is it worth it?

Yes, in my opinion, the Billie razor subscription is absolutely worth it. I will get to the actual shaving experience in a minute, but LET me tell you how much I love the convenience factor of the razor.

Convenience.

My previous razor was always falling in the shower and I NEVER remembered to replace the blades. I had the Venus razor and the blades were expensive. I also regularly dropped my aerosol shaving cream can on the shower floor, so then it would never work and I had to try to remember to replace it.

The Billie razor comes with a small magnetic triangle that sticks to the wall of your shower (glass, tile, fiberglass, etc.), so it hangs on the wall when not in use. My Billie razor has never fallen off the magnetic hanger. The BEST and MOST convenient part of the service is that the blades show up automatically before I even think about whether it is time to change it. You will love taking this off your shopping list (if you ever even remember to put it on there!).

The Shave.

With regard to shaving, my hair is not coarse and it does not grow at a rapid rate. I only shave my legs about once a week (if they have any chance of being exposed, don’t ask me about winter frequency), and I shave my underarms four times per week. However, my main shaving issue was not being able to get a close shave on my underarms. I also have very sensitive skin so I worry about trying new products. I tried many types of razors, but my underarms always looked stubbly (I think that is a word…).

The Billie razor gives me the closest shave I have ever had. I do not use any shave cream on my underarms, as the charcoal strip provides enough moisture. I use the shave cream on my legs and it has not caused any skin irritation. You barely have to use any and the bottle will last for months and months. The consistency is like a liquid soap, versus a gel or foam. It rinses easily when you are finished and it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.

For me, the Billie razor has met its burden of proof and shown by clear and convincing evidence (oh come on, it was about time for an attorney pun) that it lives up to its hype! It gives me a close shave, it is SUPER convenient, and it is affordable.

Winter frequency ?? I’m on the Billie bandwagon, too! It’s so much better than anything I’ve used before and I can’t believe the price!
